Responsible Gambling

Gamble responsibly

We write about the gambling industry for the people who work in it. We are not a betting site and nothing here is advice to gamble. If betting has stopped being fun, help is free and it works.

Where we stand

Our job is to report on operators, regulators, and markets. We do not run games, take bets, or tell anyone to wager money, and we have no interest in pretending gambling is risk-free. It is a real product with real consequences, and we cover it that way.

Know the signs

Gambling is meant to be entertainment you can afford to lose. It is worth stopping to think if any of these start to feel familiar:

  • Betting more than you can comfortably afford, or chasing losses to win them back
  • Borrowing money, or selling things, to keep gambling
  • Hiding how much you bet from people close to you
  • Gambling to escape stress, boredom, or low moods
  • Feeling anxious or irritable when you try to cut back

Where to get help

If any of that rings true for you or someone you know, these services are free, confidential, and available around the clock:

  • United States: National Council on Problem Gambling, call or text 1-800-522-4700, or chat at ncpgambling.org
  • United Kingdom: GamCare on 0808 8020 133, and the support at BeGambleAware.org
  • Anywhere: most licensed operators offer deposit limits, time-outs, and self-exclusion in their account settings, and Gamban or GAMSTOP can block gambling sites entirely

Staying in control

A few simple habits keep gambling where it belongs. Set a budget before you start and treat it like money spent on any other entertainment. Set a time limit too. Never bet to make up for a loss, never gamble with money meant for rent or bills, and skip it entirely when you are upset or have been drinking. Use the limit and time-out tools operators are required to give you.

Age limits

Gambling is for adults only. The legal age is 18 in most regulated markets and 21 in many US states. If you are under that age where you live, online gambling is not for you, and neither is the activity we cover.
